Discover The Power of Having Your Own Back

In a world that conditions us to minimize our feelings, disconnect from our bodies, ignore our needs, and judge our emotions … our relationships with ourselves turn sour. 💔 Instead of being a loving support to ourselves, we often become our own biggest critics, creating more pain and confusion in our lives at every turn.

But, what if we could consciously redefine and rewire our relationship with ourselves (cultivating a deeper sense of self-compassion and self-empowerment along the way)?

This is the power of learning to have your own back (more and more).

To me, having your own back is all about meeting yourself compassionately where you are and caring for yourself as if you are someone that you love.

It’s giving yourself the message: I’ve got you. No matter what the outcome is, you belong to me. No matter the outcome, I will lovingly stand beside you and care for you. You matter.

How to Have Your Own Back: A Somatic Perspective

Learning to have your own back is about more than just positive affirmations or superficial platitudes, it’s about fundamentally shifting how we relate to ourselves on a deep, somatic level.

Think about it like this: we can’t really have our own backs if we’re constantly denying our own needs, minimizing our own feelings, and running away from the very real and natural reactions we have to life that live in our bodies and express as our emotions.

Just like you’ll never feel loved by someone who never really sees you or hears you, you’ll never feel supported by someone who doesn’t even acknowledge your feelings, needs, and desires.

So, in order to have our own backs, practically speaking, we need to reconnect with our feelings, notice and validate our needs and desires, and turn toward the parts of ourselves that may need caring support.

This is the ever-expanding journey of embodied healing. 

In this Somatic Meditation to Have Your Own Back, we’re going to take time to reconnect with our bodies and feelings, and then go deeper using Iffirmations and Regenerating Images in Memory® so that we gain a more complete and authentic understanding of what it means to have our own backs!

  • What if I’m allowed to honor my needs and advocate for myself?

  • What if I’m worthy of using my voice and taking up space?

  • What would it be like to fully acknowledge my inherent worth?

  • What would it be like to give myself permission to be unapologetically me?

  • What if having my own back is my best route forward?

  • More and more, I’m on my side no matter the outcome.

  • More and more, I choose me.
