How to Stop Being An Overthinker

If you’ve ever wished you could just stop being an overthinker, you’re not alone.

Overthinking can feel like a constant mental treadmill, exhausting yet seemingly impossible to step off of.

And, instead of helping us solve our problems or relieve our anxiety, overthinking is far more likely to pull us deeper into stress, doubt, and worry.

If you’re tired of being trapped in an endless loop of thoughts and long to find some peace from overthinking, it’s time to dig deeper. In this episode of the Somatic Healing Meditations Podcast, we explore the roots of overthinking and uncover why we fall into this exhausting habit in the first place.

Many people try to stop overthinking by controlling or changing their thoughts, but this approach often misses the mark. It’s like trying to turn a dandelion into a rose by gluing a rose onto a dandelion stem—superficial and ultimately ineffective. If you’re not working with the roots, you’re just fighting with the true nature of overthinking

The truth is that overthinking is a response to deeper emotions and body sensations that we might not even be fully aware of.

When we experience emotions such as anxiety, uncertainty, fear, or sadness, they manifest as physical sensations. For example, a knot in your stomach or tightness in your chest.

Instead of feeling these emotions in a healing way that allows them to release and move through us when we overthink, our mind kicks into overdrive, trying to make sense of or escape from these uncomfortable feelings.

The result? Incessant mental chatter that never really addresses the root of the problem.

Somatic Meditation to Stop Being An Overthinker

In this episode, we’re not just talking about overthinking—we’re doing something about it.

During this guided somatic meditation, you’ll learn to drop beneath the surface of your thoughts and connect with the feelings in your body that are fueling this habit. Using Regenerating Images in Memory®, we’ll explore how overthinking serves a self-protective function and how you can begin to shift away from it.

If you’re ready to release the stress and anxiety that come with constant overthinking, this meditation is for you. Tune in to uncover the deeper understanding and compassionate self-awareness that can help you finally break free from the mental treadmill. Your journey toward peace and clarity starts here.

*Note: This is part 2 in a 2-part series on how to stop overthinking! Last week I guided you through a soothing and effective somatic practice to break the cycle of overthinking by dropping into your body and out of your head. Check out that episode here!
