What Do You Need To Feel Supported? (A Somatic Meditation For Deep Self-Care)
The Art of Somatic Support: A Different Kind of Self-Care
We are often told that more self-care is the answer. That if we could just add another practice, another pause, another ritual, we’d feel whole again.
But how many times have you tried to rest without truly feeling restored?
How many times have you added some sweet self-care to your already overflowing to-do list only for something deep inside of you to still feel unmet?
How many times have you gone through the motions but still felt depleted?
You are not alone.
So many of us go through the motions of self-care without feeling the care part. And often, it’s not because we’re doing it wrong—but because we’re missing the most essential piece: deep listening.
To listen—to truly listen—is to meet yourself with the gentleness that you’ve always deserved. And this kind of deep listening can lead to so much clarity about what you ACTUALLY need to feel supported.
It is a sacred act to pause and listen to the ache beneath your exhaustion, the anxiety beneath your restlessness, and the tenderness beneath your defenses.
The Missing Piece: Deep Listening
When we are disconnected from our bodies, we are disconnected from our truest needs. And without that awareness, even our best attempts at self-care can feel hollow - like we’re tending to ourselves to check it off the list instead of from a place of deep, embodied support.
We may assume that rest looks like taking a nap, or that nourishment means eating well, or that balance is about scheduling downtime.
But without attunement—without truly sensing what our inner world is asking for—self-care can become just another thing to check off the list.
But what if, instead of figuring it out, we dropped in and listened?
Beneath the thoughts and expectations, there is a quieter knowing—one that reveals itself not through logic, but through felt experience.
A tightness in the chest asking for comfort.
A weariness in the bones asking for softness.
An ache in the heart asking for presence.
When we listen with curiosity, we begin to understand what we actually need to feel supported, rather than what we assume we should need. And when we honor that knowing, self-care becomes something entirely different. Not a routine, but a relationship. Not an obligation, but a way of being with ourselves.
Pause for a Moment…
Ask yourself:
💛 What do I need to feel supported right now?
Not what you think you should need.
Not what worked for someone else.
But what your body is asking for in this moment.
This is the shift from self-care to self-attunement.
True support doesn’t come from a checklist.
It comes from listening and responding with care.
And when you learn to do this, self-care stops feeling like an obligation…
And starts feeling like a homecoming.
A Somatic Meditation for Deep Self-Care
So in this week’s episode of Somatic Healing Meditations, I invite you into a practice of deep self-care—not as an act of doing, but as an act of listening.
In this somatic mediation, we’ll be using a gentle yet powerful technique called Regenerating Images in Memory (RIM®). This practice helps us soften the grip of the analytical mind and guides us into the deeper wisdom of the body—where true self-care begins.
As we explore the question What do I need to feel supported?, RIM® will support us in accessing the rich, felt experience of our inner world, allowing insights to arise not from force or effort, but from a place of deep, nurturing clarity.
Because true support doesn’t come from a checklist, it comes from attunement. And when we learn the art of inner support - listening deeply and responding with attuned care - we give ourselves the gift of being truly met.
Press play and let’s begin. 💛
