Somatic Self-Love Practice: Reconnect With Your Inner Self

Self-love is a term often misunderstood and oversimplified. We know it’s an ideal we want to work toward, but most of the advice we hear about how to actually achieve it totally misses the mark.

Self-love isn't something we can simply think our way into or achieve with affirmations or a relaxing spa day. It’s something so much deeper and more beautiful than that.

To know how to truly love ourselves, we need to ask a powerful question: What makes me feel implicitly loved?

For most of us, the tangible answer is that we feel implicitly loved when we feel seen, heard, supported, and accepted as we are. This is what builds trust, belonging, and safety in relationships—especially our relationship with ourselves.

The Foundation of True Self-Love

True self-love is about building a compassionate and supportive relationship with ourselves, one that deeply honors our inner experience and attunes to our authentic needs, feelings, and desires.

When we ignore, suppress, or deny these inner truths, we become disconnected from ourselves. And as a result, we feel insecure, unseen, and unloved.

Think about it this way: you’ll never truly feel loved in a relationship where your needs, feelings, and desires are regularly dismissed, minimized, or invalidated.

But, unfortunately, that’s often how we’re treating ourselves.

We’ve been conditioned to minimize, suppress, and deny our very real and natural reactions to life (that come through us as feelings and emotions). And that leaves deep parts of ourselves feeling unseen, unvalued, and alone.

But that’s where the power of this somatic self-love practice comes in. By reconnecting with our bodies and emotions, we can begin to heal this disconnection.

Somatic Meditation for Self-Love And Support

This gentle somatic meditation for self-love and support is all about reconnection and deep listening.

It will guide you to attune to your inner self more deeply and to bring loving support to the parts of you that need it.

This self-love practice utilizes my favorite somatic emotional processing technique, Regenerating Images in Memory®, which is the perfect tool to help you drop beneath the surface of your conscious mind and connect more deeply with your inner self and true feelings.

This practice isn’t about doing this meditation once and achieving perfect self-love. But, when practiced regularly, this type of deep listening and inner attunement can help you cultivate a relationship with yourself where you create a deep sense of connection, belonging, and acceptance.
