What is Intuitive Decision Making?

So many of us are taught to live in our heads. We analyze, compare, and second-guess. We ask ourselves again and again, What should I do? What’s the right choice?—as if the answer will magically appear the harder we think.

But intuitive decision making doesn’t come from tightening our grip or spinning in mental loops.

It comes from a softer place. A wiser place. One we can only access when we return home to our bodies and connect with our hearts.

When we’re cut off from our bodies, we’re also cut off from the signals and sensations that guide us toward truth. But when we pause, breathe, and listen inward with compassion, we begin to notice something deeper: a felt sense. A quiet knowing that lives beneath the noise.

Intuition Often Speaks Through the Body

The body is always communicating—through tension, relaxation, contraction, or ease. It offers subtle messages about what feels aligned and what doesn’t.

We may feel a heaviness when something is off, or a deep exhale when something is right.

These aren’t random reactions. They are the language of intuition.

Through somatic awareness, we learn how to recognize these cues not as inconveniences but as inner guidance. We start to trust that our body is not in the way—it’s showing us the way.

The Intelligence of the Heart

We often think of intuition as something mystical or abstract, but it’s actually deeply embodied, and one of its most powerful centers is the heart.

You may have heard the phrase “the little brain in the heart.”
That’s not just poetic language. It’s neuroscience.

The heart has its own intrinsic nervous system, sometimes called the little brain in the heart - a complex network of over 40,000 neurons that allow it to sense, feel, learn, and even remember. This “heart brain” can operate independently of the brain in your head, sending signals upward that shape your emotional experience, your sense of safety, and even your decisions.

The heart can sense what’s aligned before we can articulate why.
It can guide us toward choices that feel congruent with our values, our needs, and our deepest sense of self.

This is what makes heart-centered intuitive decision making so powerful: it bypasses the noise of conditioning and brings us closer to what actually feels true.
