About Nada Yoga

Nada Yoga is an ancient practice which employs the breath, mantra, mudra, etc to focus the mind for absorption. Yoga means to yoke, to bring together, and to strike a balance between opposites like yin/yang or positive/negative. Nada is vibrational sound and focusing on the sounds produced by instruments, chanting, or natural sounds are ways to practise nada yoga. The Hatha Yoga Pradipika (the traditional Sanskrit Hatha yoga manual), which describes nada yoga as one of the most effective and fruitful meditation practises to calm the mind, attributes this innate propensity of the mind to be drawn into itself through sound.  In the past, music was restricted to the temples for religious ceremonies and rituals, as extremely potent sound formulations rather than musical entertainment forms. Nada Yoga can help bring tranquilly and calm to restless bodies and anxious minds.

About Sheetal:

I have been a practitioner of Nada Yoga since being in my mother’s womb, without even knowing it, as I was immersed into the world of mantras, mudras and pranayama alongside my mother as part of her daily temple rituals. Growing up in India, I have had the blessing and privilege to study with some of the kindest teachers and receive their embodied transmissions. The pandemic of 2020, gave me an opportunity to take a break from running The Urban Ashram, and fully immerse myself into advanced Nada Yoga practices for personal transformation. Along the way, there was a clear insight that the best way to integrate and embody these practices is to share it with sincere seekers around the world. Since then, life has presented me with beautiful invitations to travel and teach these practices with people around the world, in various settings, both online and offline. I hope you feel the call to gently hum your way hOMe with me as a guide on your side!
